Kobiór – Regional Museum The Wood Tar Factory

Kobiór – Regional Museum The Wood Tar Factory

In Kobiór there is an old building called The Wood Tar Factory. It is situated quite far from the main road. The name comes from the factory housed here till 1917. Nothing actually remained after the factory apart from the 19th-century, wooden owner’s house but it is worth visiting to see how the villagers’ life and work used to look like. The Regional Museum – The Wood Tar Factory established actually by the inhabitants of Kobiór on the initiative of the Upper Silesia Association in 2003. A lot of historically valuable objects can be found here which come from the private collections. They make up a very interesting exposition, which introduces the visitors to the world at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries. You can find objects from that epoque here such as furniture, instruments, crosses, religious objects, crockery, everyday objects, books, magazines, elements of the outfits, etc. The additional attraction is the collection of the local fauna.

You can stop here for a while and spend time by the fire or the fireplace. The Museum is located in a charming place near the forest, far from a busy road. It is a good idea to visit this place while walking down the routs in order to feel the spirit of the old times which is present here now.

The museum is a social institution run by the Kobiór Wood Tar Factory Association which is supported by contributions and donations.
