Kozy – The Adolf Zuber Historical Chamber

Kozy – The Adolf Zuber Historical Chamber

The Adolf Zuber Historical Chamber is located in Kozy in the Czecz Family Palace, by the main road. The institution has been operating in this location since 2014 when the place was renovated and the Rural Commune Library moved there and the regional collections are under its charge. It possesses relics which were being collected since the 1960s by Adolf Zuber and the members of the History Club. The patron of the chamber was interested in the history of Kozy, he created the photo collection, which is exhibited now, with photographs and descriptions of places, landscapes, buildings, and the local monuments. Museum classes and meetings, which familiarize visitors with the local history, are held here.

The exposition is theme-divided into three departments – court life, religious and everyday life. The first one is dedicated to the Czecz family who owned the palace before the war. We can find portraits and historical relics connected with the life of the last owners of the palace.

Next department presents incredible religious collection. Apart from the history of the parish in Kozy, we can learn about protestant past of the village and the relics from that time. Our attention is especially attracted to very well preserved medieval door, the Protestant Bible translated by Martin Luther in 1716 or the statue of Virgin Mary with Baby Jesus, which was earlier found on the Palace Chapel.

The third department focuses on the everyday life of the villagers. The exhibition presents not only the everyday objects but also tools and accessories connected with apiarism and firefighting. There are all kinds of quern-stones, butter churns, planes, irons, scales, peels and craftsmen machines, etc. A great rarity are relics from the second and the first world wars which are exhibited here. Among the exhibits, we can also find the Lachy costume.

The guides are very important here. These people, full of passion for what they do, tell interesting stories connected with the exhibited objects.

The neoclassical palace is surrounded by the picturesque park. After the renovation, the building is intended for extensive cultural activity. Apart from the library, there is also the Kozy Culture Centre here. The palace is a great place for afternoon retreat on the outskirts of Bielsko-Biała.
