Pszczyna – Open Air Museum The Farm Village of Pszczyna

The Farm Village of Pszczyna – the Open air Museum is a charming place located near the town center. It is a complex of more than ten buildings from the Pszczyna area, dated from the 19th century. It was opened in 1975 and during over 40 years its area has been extended to 2 ha. The museum is located on the Wooden Architecture Trail.

You can find here – a bee yard, a windmill, a coach house, peasant hut, etc. Each building has a theme exposition. We can see tools used in bee-keeping, shoe-making or farming as well as interior arrangements of the typical 19th-century house, all kinds of carriages or handicraft. There are also rite props e.g. the elements of the carol-singers' costumes.

Different workshops or older and younger visitors are held in the museum (“Magic herbs”, “The secrets of bees”, wet felting, glasspainting, etc.). There are also events held such as “Little Brzym” – the Presentation of Regional Children Folk Ensembles and “Meetings at Brzym” – the Folk Culture Festival (it has a long tradition) as well as the European Days of Heritage in the Open air Museum, the bee festival or the Silesian games and plays festival “Śląski graczki i łonaczki”.

When you enter the museum you can feel the idyllic atmosphere of a small 19th-century village. It is largely due to the modernization carried out between 2007–2013, which made the museum collections even more attractive and allowed modern technologies. The whole facility is well-maintained, there are new trails and new lightning there. It is impossible not to give in to the atmosphere of this place mainly thanks to the animals living here and the sounds that accompany the visitors. When you get closer to the smithy, where you can see the tools used by craftsmen in the past, you can hear from a distance the sounds of their hard work. This idyllic atmosphere is even more enhanced by still working wheel in the windmill whose mechanism was reconstructed on the grounds of the 18th-century technical solutions.

It is a very interesting and magical place. It attracts with the landscape but also with the history and traditions we learn about while visiting. It is possible to have a guided tour and organize a conference, a reception or a training in the arbour which perfectly suits all remaining buildings.
