Suszec – The Kamojówka Regional Museum

Suszec – The Kamojówka Regional Museum

The Kamojówka Regional Museum is located in Suszec-Podlesie. It consists of three reconstructed buildings – a barn, a smithy and the main museum building – stylised as no longer existing Kamojów manor house. The buildings were built after the year 2000. The octagonal barn from Pszczyna is especially interesting because it was built according to the19th-century carpentry methods.

There are all kinds of tools connected with the work of a blacksmith, all of which are still in use. The original, still working powertrain of the turning lathe and the boring rig called “transmission” deserves a special attention. One of the attractions here is the blacksmith’s work demonstration. In the barn, you can find a live exhibition of carpentry tools and the grain processing trail – “from a sheaf to flour”. Not only can you see the exposition but also study all the tools in detail and learn how to use them with the help of the guide, who talks wonderfully about every object presenting its history and showing how to use it.

The third building comprises the biggest number of treasures inside. When entering this spacious room you find it as arranged for all types of traditional shoemaking shops, weaving shops, wheelwrighting shops, ropeworking shop, etc. On the first floor, we can also find accessories of the old village house and everyday objects in two collections showing the washing methods and the food production in the old farmhouses. Domestic crosses form a separate collection. There is also a permanent exhibition of Tadeusz Paszek’s sculptures and the collection of Silesian folk costumes from the Pszczyna Region.

All three buildings look very modest outside but it is a very illusive impression. The people who created this place are the real treasure of this place. The Szender family have been collecting all these exhibits since the 1970s. The collection they own right now is truly substantial and fully catalogued. Visiting combined with the well-told history by the hosts of the place is a real pleasure even for the most demanding tourists. Undoubtedly the place is worth recommending to the history lovers as well as all those who are interested in technique and ethnography what is confirmed by entries in the memory book made by the guests from Poland and almost 50 other countries of the world.
