Maków Podhalański – The Emil Wacyk Regional Chamber

Maków Podhalański – The Emil Wacyk Regional Chamber

The Emil Wacyk Regional Chamber in Maków Podhalański is located in the building of the Town Public Library. It was originated by Emil Wacyk and Kazimierz Stopa but it has been in its current location since 1978.

The collection consists of everyday objects, all kinds of scales, lamps, clocks, baskets, metal measuring tools, clay double pots, etc. They also exhibit religion-themed paintings, sculptures, and toys – older and newer designs. Adam Kuś’es Maków nativity scene is an especially interesting exhibit. The only one of its kind here. Its precision workmanship is truly fascinating.

We can learn here about the art of Maków Podhalański white embroidery which is a specialty of this region. It is a flat embroidery, lined, with holes made with the use of toledo technique. Most of them are donated by Anna Koziana, an excellent local artist. There is also a very old – 100-year-old white embroidery which is very interesting. Tray cloths made with the colorful cotton filet or made on colorful canvas are exhibited in glass displays.

The rest of the exposition consists of the relics connected with the history of Maków Podhalański and the WW II – army uniforms, photographs, letters, etc.

The Regional Chamber is very important to the local community. Thanks to those expositions every next generation has the possibility to learn about their past and the tradition of their ancestors. It is also a meeting place for the local community.
