TransEtno – promotion of the cultural heritage of the Polish and Slovakian borderland
On 1 February 2017, the Regionalny Ośrodek Kultury in Bielsko-Biała together with the Slovak partner (Oravské kultúrne stredisko in Dolny Kubín), started to implement the "TransEtno – promotion of the cultural heritage of the Polish-Slovak border" micro project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund Interreg V-A Poland - Slovakia 2014-2020 Program.
The main goal of our activities is to popularize and popularize Polish and Slovak folk culture on both sides of the border, and thus cross-border integration, exchange of experiences, strengthening of relationships. We care very much for the inhabitants of the borderland to be aware of the importance of tradition, familiarize with its face and change in stereotypical thinking about cultural heritage. In a word: showing the strength and value of folk culture that can integrate nations, engage local artists, ethnographers, anthropologists, sociologists, animators and associate enthusiasts from the entire area of the Euroregion Beskidy. And all this using both traditional (album, book guide) and modern (website, mobile application, live concerts online) tools.
The microproject, which runs from February 2017 to January 2018, includes such activities as: publication of an album dedicated to one of the largest folklore events in the world – Beskidy Highlanders' Week of Culture; creating a cross-border website www.transetno.eu; edition of the book guide "On the trails of tradition" with a mobile application for smartphones of the same name and film registration of nine concerts of the 54th Beskidy Highlanders' Week of Culture (in Żywiec and Wisła) with live broadcasts to the Internet.
All tasks will be carried out by Polish-Slovak staff: employees of partner institutions, external experts (IT specialists, graphic designers, photographers, filmmakers, editors) and volunteers from areas on both sides of the border. It is worth adding that youth and students from Poland and Slovakia will be involved in the work related to cultural networking, which will make this group visible in the activities of partner institutions and make it co-responsible for promoting and preserving the cultural heritage of the borderland. Micro project recipients are, in turn, residents of the Polish-Slovak borderland as well as other regions of Poland and even countries. We want to be interested in the folk culture of Poland and Slovakia, encourage tourist arrivals to the Beskidy Euroregion – visiting museums, open-air museums, creative and regional chambers etc., as well as active participation in folklore events as the largest group of recipients.
