Špuler Ján

from Bobrov, born  in 1951

He was born in 1951, lives in Bobrov. From early childhood, he was interested in folk handicrafts. He was particularly close to working in wood, which has been devoting more time for this since 1980. He creates sculptures of various sizes – on the subject of sacral (pieta, Madonna, images of Christ, saints and others), as well as scenes showing the everyday life of the village. Among his works, you can also find figures of folk craftsmen and animals. He works mainly in linden wood (sometimes uses cherries and sycamore), uses saws, planes, files and other joinery tools, and uses beeswax to finish off the figures. Since 2010, he has also been sculpting in stone,  usually  in sandstone.

Ján Špuler is a creator registered in ÚĽUVe. His works were presented in the regional program of Slovak television, at individual exhibitions in the country (e.g. in Námestovo) and abroad (e.g. the exhibition of cribs in Kraków). He took part in projects the Kysuce Culture Centre in Čadca (e.g. "Žena a kvet a ďalšie") or the Regional Culture Centre in Bielsko-Biała (e.g. "Patrons of our churche"). He is a multiple laureate of the Slovakian competition "Výtvarné spectrum" and other international awards.
