The Regional Chamber located in the Babiogórcy Cultural Heritage Primary School nr. 5 in Zawoja-Gołynia was established in 2000. This place offers a lot – you can spend your time in a friendly atmosphere and you can learn something about the traditions of the Babiogórcy.

It was Małgorzata Bogacz’s idea – contemporary headmaster. But it is Zofia Bugajska – a headmaster of the school for many years – who is actually the spirit of this place. She is an organizer of the cultural, educational and social life of her village. Together with her husband, she established the Regional Folk Group – Babiogórcy in 1963. She has been collecting and publishing local songs, dances and customs for many years. Her children followed in her footsteps and their family band is very widely known.

Civilization changes made old houses and equipment disappear. The Chamber became the place where they decided to preserve them so they could be used to pass the knowledge about the cultural heritage to next generations. The competition was announced and children supported by their families started bringing all kinds of objects at the same time learning what they were and what people would use them for. Therefore we can see handicraft exhibits (wooden tools, tools for flax processing, etc.), farming and household tools (for baking bread, for processing milk into cheese and butter, etc.), embroideries and garments, interior design elements (paper flowers, religious paintings). There is also an area dedicated to the Babiogórcy folk group.

Zofia Bugajska is also a leader of the Zawojanki group (the Farmer’s Wives’ Association) which hosts many interesting events such as “Meetings with the Babiogórcy culture”. They also offer the local inhabitants and tourists classes during which you get to know the dances, music, regional songs, different annual rituals connected with the lent, harvest or potato harvest, as well as you can learn how to make embroideries, traditional Christmas decorations, etc. Cooking classes are also very popular together with local dishes tasting – everything prepared by the group.

There is also another initiative – a didactic trail leading to Przysłop hamlet with stops connected with history and culture of this place.
